Wassa Homemade Bar is the ultimate sundowner spot in Patong Beach. Located off Hasip-Pee Road (the street parallel to and above Nanai Road), this open-air platform offers one of the most outstanding views of the whole bay of Patong on Phuket’s west coast.
A drink at Wassa Bar has a taste of reward as the cement road to reach it is narrow and extremely steep (inexperienced motorbike drivers should specially be careful), making the access pretty challenging. Once there, the cool sea breeze, the serene atmosphere gently rocked by R&B tunes, and the extraordinary panorama give guests a wonderful Olympian feeling: being on and above earth at the same time.
Wassa Homemade Bar is a family-run establishment set on two levels. At the parking level stands the open-sided bar counter and a few table and chairs, from which the view is partially hidden behind the trees planted on the slope going down to Hasip Pee Road. A flight of unequal concrete stairs takes visitors to the 50sqm terrace built on stilts that is the climax of the venue.
Wassa Bar is really a great place to unwind. Apart from the soft music played at a subtle volume, the only sounds you can hear are natural. Surrounded by rainforest and agricultural plots, the atmosphere and style of the venue – with second-hand irregular furnishings – has an undeniable unpretentious feel. At Wassa Bar, the star of the show is the sunset over Patong Bay – so much so that even the toilets face out and down the hill, making them a little surprising when you open the door to see the back of the cistern.
